Arthritis, Acupuncture & You
If you suffer with arthritis, you know how
challenging it can be to find relief that does
not come in the form of a prescription bottle.
Acupuncture can provide the relief that you
need without counter-indications and
harmful interactions with other prescription
medications.
Dr. Rachum has been certified since 2000 in
the practice of acupuncture and has treated
many patients successfully for arthritis pain
relief.
According to western medicine
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most
common type of arthritis. Over
21 million Americans suffer
with this type. In Osteoarthritis,
the cartilage between the joints
breaks down, this usually
occurs in the hips, hands,
knees, low back and neck.
There are many factors that
can increase your risk of
incurring Osteoarthritis - a
previous joint injury, being
overweight, genetic history and
age. Repetitive motion can
also put you at an increased
risk of osteoarthritis in your
joints.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is
another type of arthritis with
about 2.1 million sufferers in
the U.S, with women making
up the majority of this group. In
this case, the lining of the joints
have become inflamed and
can lead to permanent joint
damage and loss of
movement. Some of the
symptoms include: warm,
swollen or tender joints,
stiffness in joints, fatigue, flu
symptoms, muscle pain and
weakness.
How can Dr. Rachum help?
Dr. Rachum takes a holistic or whole-body approach to
treating his patients. According to Chinese theory, Qi
(chee) is the life-energy that flows through our bodies
and protects it from illness using pathways or
meridians. When there is a blockage or imbalance of
Qi, physical symptoms may result.
Dr. Rachum will take a medical history and perform a
physical examination to identify your body's
imbalances. He will then advise you of the course of
treatment that he feels you should pursue. If you
choose to pursue acupuncture as your course of
treatment, he will follow up the examination with an
acupuncture session.
During this treatment, he will use fine, sterile,
disposable needles that will be inserted in very specific
acupoints along the affected meridians in order to
balance and unblock any Qi obstructions.
Dr. Rachum may also advise you of any nutritional
supplements that will help in your treatments along
with exercises, diet tips, and lifestyle changes.
There are no "quick fixes" for arthritis. Arthritis is a
condition that does not happen overnight and there is
no overnight cure.
Dr. Rachum can offer you relief from the pain
symptoms and an opportunity to prevent further
damage to your joints.
